Obituary

Carmen Nichols Vickers, 71, of Eastman died Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Dodge County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Thursday, February 24 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Rice, Rev. James Smith and Rev. Huey Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-9 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Vickers was born April 13, 1939 in Irwin County to the late Grady P. and Mary Godwin Nichols. She graduated from Irwin County High School in 1957 and from the Baptist Bible Institute, Graceville, FL in 1967. Mrs. Vickers lived in Eastman for the past year from Turnerville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed dearly. Mrs. Vickers was a pastors wife, pianist and choir director and along with her husband served the following Baptist churches, Pope City in Wilcox Co., Bland Memorial in Stuart County, County Line in Lake George, Damascus in Cuthbert, Westside in Fitzgerald, Chase in Columbus, Westview in Panama City, FL, Bethlehem in Irwin County, Grace in Eastman, Cedar Creek in Winder, Agape in Panama City, FL and Mt. Zion in Turnerville. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Turnerville.

Mrs. Vickers is survived by her husband: Rev. Virgil R. Vickers of Eastman; daughters: Selena Jane (Fred) Evans of Panama City, FL and Mary Celeste Coleman of Eastman; grandchildren: Troy Evans, Jeremy N. Evans, Kyle A. Evans, Hannah Coleman and Joshua R. Coleman; great grandchild: Justin Evans; brother: Rev. Huey (Pat) Nichols of Douglas; sister: Mona Faye (James) Simmons of Douglas as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Paula Paulk.
