Manuel T. Almeida, 86, of New Bedford died February 20, 2011 at New Bedford Healthcare Center, due to cancer.
He was the husband of Lena (Sylvia) Almeida of South Dennis, MA.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Theodore S. and Mary (Gonsalves) Almeida, he lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was an active member and communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Almeida was formerly employed as a general service administrator.
He was an avid bowler at Wonder Bowl and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; 4 children, Michael E. Almeida, Robert T. Almeida and his wife Linda Pina and Karen M. Graham, all of New Bedford and Tami F. Peete and her husband Reverend Willie Peete of Georgia; a sister, Adeline Almeida; his companion, Maria Correia of New Bedford; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews and several remaining relatives.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, February 25th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday, February 24th from 4-8 PM.
