TAUNTON – Joseph A. Oliveira, husband of Melissa A. (Vernazzaro) Oliveira of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital, surrounded by his family on Feb. 18, 2011.
He was 53.
Born in St. Maria, Azores, he was the son of Walter N. and Maria (Freitas) Oliveira of Taunton.
He moved to the United States with his family in 1969.
A carpenter by trade, Joe was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, and enjoyed soccer, golf and fishing.
A talented soccer player, he played for the Taunton Eagles for many years.
Joe enjoyed sending time with his family and friends, and had a love for animals.
Besides his wife and parents, he leaves five children, Jonathan C., Nicholas E. and Kayla E. Oliveira, all of Taunton, Joseph and Rachael L. Oliveira, both of Kingston, MA; seven brothers, Carlos and Joe F. Oliveira, both of Taunton, Walter Oliveira of Middleboro, George Oliveira of Providence, RI, Victor and Luis Oliveira, both of FL, and Peter Oliveira of CA; five sisters, Mary Kuezewski, Maria Carmen Johnson and Claudia Page, all of Taunton, Francine Loura of Norton, and Analia Oliveira of FL; several nieces and nephews; and three great nieces.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Kilmer Ave. Taunton on Wednesday, Feb. 23rd at 11 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
