Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Stanley W. Worthley, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of Jeanette P. (Dagley) Worthley.
Born in Gloucester on January 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Carroll and Nellie (Corliss) Worthley. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester public schools.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he entered at the age of seventeen and proudly served aboard the USS McGowan in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate Third Class on May 23, 1946.
Stan was employed as a maintenance-refrigeration technician at Atlantic Seafoods for his friend, Robert “Slug” Ryan most of his working career before retiring in 1989.
Stanley enjoyed photography, gardening and repairing small engines. He was a past member of the Cape Ann Sportsman’s Club and the National Rifleman’s Association. He will be remembered for his quick witted sense of humor.
In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, he is survived his two sons, George W. and Richard A. Worthley both of Gloucester; his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara J. and Donald T. Vadala of Hamilton; seven grandchildren, April Worthley, Jennifer Carr, Erica (Worthley) Harris, Stanley Worthley, Barry Worthley, Jeanette (Vadala) Sheehan and Donald T. Vadala, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Harris, Haley Harris, Christine Harris, Ocean and Ceriana Worthley, Erin Carr and Kevin and Emma Sheehan and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Frank Aiello and Phyllis and Charles Marshall, a brother and sister-in-law, Earland and Katharine Worthley, two nieces, Sandy (Aiello) Orlando and Kathy Worthley and a nephew, John Marshall.
His funeral service will be held at a later date. At Stan’s request, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
