Obituary

WORCESTER-Evangelos “Angelo” Tsatis, 90, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on February 15th, 2011 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Angelo was born in the village of Longo, Vorios Epirus, Greece. In 1949 he met and married his beloved wife Dimitroula Liolis and they were married for over 61 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Arthur of East Brookfield, MA and his daughters and sons-in-law; Linda and Gary Peters of Worcester, MA and Joanne and Steven McMahan of Ashland, MA. He was the very proud and loving “Papou” of Michael, Diana and Gregory Peters all of Worcester, MA.
Angelo arrived in the United States in March of 1951 with his wife Dimitroula and his young son Arthur. Upon arrival, he began working for Table Talk Pies retiring in 1982. While at Table Talk he served as the Union Shop Steward and was instrumental in negotiating a fair wage increase and adequate working conditions for his fellow employees. He attended night classes to learn the English language. He also earned a certificate in carpentry from Worcester Boys Trade, and created a second career which helped him to support his family. Although he lacked a formal education, Angelo was well read and well versed on current affairs and world politics and was always looking for a good political debate. He was a firm believer in learning from one’s life experiences, believing that “life was school.” This was a lesson he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an excellent cook, baker, and creative inventor. He loved to cook for his family and for functions at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its Senior Men’s Club.
Angelo was the son of the late Nicholas and Lambrini (Tgoli) Tsatis. He is also survived by his two sisters Olga Kolios of Longo and Theodora Philipi of Lovina, Albania, and several nieces and nephews in Greece and Albania. He was also predeceased by his older brother Christos Tsatis of Athens, Greece.
Angelo was a member of the Grand Lodge of Masons, The Pan Epirotic Society, St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a proud a member of it's Men’s Club where he spent many happy hours laughing, joking and playing cards with his friends. He was loving, generous, kind and full of life. He will be greatly missed by his loving family who he believed was “life’s best investment.”
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the loving and compassionate care provided to their father by the staff at Memorial Hospital and Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 12:00 PM at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, February 18th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 9 Erie Drive, Natick, MA 01760.
