Obituary

NEW BEDFORD -- Milton A. Jenkins, 94, of Mattapoisett died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Adella M. (Burrell) Jenkins; they would have celebrated their 70th anniversary in June.

Born in New Bedford, he lived there until moving to Mattapoisett in 1941. He continued to reside in his home with his wife from that time until his recent hospitalization.

Mr. Jenkins was an optician at F.M. Jenkins Optometrist for many years. He retired as a gas serviceman from the former New Bedford Gas & Edison Light Co. in 1974 after more than 25 years of service.

An automobile enthusiast, he owned more than 60 vehicles in his lifetime.

Precluded from serving during World War II, he provided great support to members of his extended family who were serving overseas.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Arnett Marion (Jenkins) Peccini and Roxanne Beth (Jenkins) Bungert; eight grandchildren, Fred Peccini of South Carolina, Beth Palermino of Maryland, Daniel Bungert, Meg Reilly, Lori Bardwell and Jason Bungert, all of Mattapoisett, Thomas Peccini of Cyprus and Ethan Bungert of Washington; 16 great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

He was the brother of the late Marion Hatch, Helen Hamilton, Elizabeth J. Murray and Howard F. Jenkins.

A private interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, Ma.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday April 3, 2004 at theMattapoisett Congregational Church, Mattapoisett, Ma. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
