WORCESTER-Christos "Chris" G. Johns, 89, of Worcester died February 13th in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. His wife of 57 years Sophia (Chanis) Johns predeceased him in 2003. He is survived by two sons, William C. Johns and his wife Barbara of Hampton, NH and George C. Johns of New York City; two daughters, Kristina Niedbala and her husband Ronald of Worcester, and Connie Hebert and her husband Brad of Westborough; two brothers, Perry Johns and his wife Jeanne of Rutland and Savas John and his wife Carol of Franklin; two sisters, Yvonne Botsis of Shrewsbury and Cynthia Frank and her husband Tom of Cranston, RI; seven grandchildren, Kristin, Michael, Christopher, Andrew, Katya, Jessica and Timothy and many nephews and nieces. His brother James John predeceased him.
He was born in Epiros, Greece the son of George and Penelope (Rogos) John and emigrated to the United States in 1933 through Ellis Island and eventually settled with his family in Taunton, Ma.
He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre. After returning from his war service, he attended and graduated from Bryant College with a degree in business administration. He then pursued a long and successful career as a Public Accountant. Early in his accounting career, he also operated the concession stand at the old Greyhound Bus Terminal at Salem Square in Worcester with his brother James.
Christos was a dedicated member of the Greek community in Worcester, active in the Order of AHEPA, serving as Treasurer for many years and as Supreme Governor and once served as President of the St. Spyridon Cathedral.
Christos always looked forward to special occasions and the holiday season, as spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family brought him considerable joy. His was a generous, kind, thoughtful and loving grandfather and father.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the loving and compassionate care provided to their father by the staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral is Friday, February 18th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 11:00 am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, February 17th from 4:00 until 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
