Frank L. “Pappy” Uhas, 78, of Fitzgerald died Friday, February 11, 2011 at Coliseum Medical Center in Macon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, February 16, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Chaplain Johnny Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Uhas was born April 28, 1932 in Berea, Ohio to the late Frank J. and Elizabeth Wiechowski Uhas. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and a Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol in Vero Beach, Florida. Mr. Uhas had lived in the Fitzgerald community since 1984. He retired from the Delco Remy Battery Plant in Fitzgerald where he had worked in the Formation Department and was a former machinist for General Motors Terex Division. He worked with GM approximately 28 years serving as a member and former Union Steward of the UAW. Mr. Uhas was a member of the American Legion. He was a racecar driver and was a crewmember for Jimmy Means whose car was #52. Mr. Uhas was a private airplane pilot owning his own plane at one time. He liked to watch skydiving and follow it. He was a fan of blue grass music. Mr. Uhas was a member of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Cindy & John Probert of Irwin Co.; son: Robert L Uhas of Fitzgerald; a granddaughter: Kristen Probert of Irwin Co.; and 2 sisters: Betty Ornas of Parma Heights, Ohio and Florence Hostal of Rocky River, Ohio. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister.
