Yves J. Nadeau, 1914-2004
Longtime New Hampshire educator Yves J. Nadeau died Jan. 4, 2004, in Manchester, N.H. He was 89.
In 1980, Mr. Nadeau retired as a professor from New Hampshire Community Technical College at Manchester, where he trained hundreds of students in the Machine Tool Processes Department. He was dedicated to his students and felt honored to be able to send them out into the working world with the skills they needed to be successful.
A machinist who built heavy equipment that was essential to the Allied effort during World War II, he received his bachelor’s degree with honors at Keene State College in 1963, and his master’s at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
Mr. Nadeau also taught high school machine shop and shop math in Keene and Exeter.
He was a member of Alpha Pi Tau fraternity and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Montreal to Doria and Laura Nadeau and lived in Canada and northern New England all his life.
Mr. Nadeau was a proud citizen of the United States, having been naturalized in 1939.
He and Claire Remy were married July 4, 1940, in Claremont and they lived there until 1959, when he pursued higher education in Keene. Claire preceded him in death in 1979.
Mr. Nadeau also is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carmel Nadeau of Montreal and Dorianne Hawley and Mary Jane Theroux, both of Claremont; brothers, Andre Nadeau of North Carolina, John Messier of Maine and Victor Messier of Claremont; and grandson, Louis J. Riviezzo.
In July 1987, he married Glenice O’Malley of Manchester, where the couple lived.
Mr. Nadeau is survived by his daughters, Carmel Hopkins of Las Vegas and Elaine White of Exeter; stepchildren, John O’Malley of Hooksett, Maureen Stiles of Warner, Jane Collins of Manchester and James O’Malley of Somerville, Mass.; granddaughters, Carmel Gray, Laura Napper and Lisa Shykula; grandsons, Alfonso Riviezzo, Michael Riviezzo and Anthony Riviezzo; stepgrandchildren, Ellen Stiles, Kellie Collins, Maura Collins, Patrick Stiles, Connor Stiles and Jack O’Malley; and great-grandchildren, Nicole Riviezzo, Andrea Riviezzo, Nikel Riviezzo, Carmel Gray, Chandler Riviezzo, Claire Gray, Alana Collins, Samuel Napper, Isabella Riviezzo, William Napper and Angelica Riviezzo.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Chapel in Manchester.
