Obituary

BEVERLY: Peter G. Koutrakis, 60, was called home on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following an extended illness. He was the husband of Lisa J. (Sudak) Koutrakis.
Born in Woburn on October 16, 1950, he was the son of Barbara (MacDonald) Koutrakis of Peabody and the late Manuel G. Koutrakis. He was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School class of 1968 and the Culinary Institute of Northeastern. He had resided in Peabody and Salem for many years before moving to Beverly four years ago.
Peter had owned and operated the former Pete’s Bait & Tackle Shop on North Street in Salem for over thirty years. He had also once owned the former Peter’s Market on Leach Street in Salem for several years.
An avid sportsman, Peter enjoyed fishing and hunting. His vast knowledge in the field led him to write fishing columns for the Salem News as well as being a frequent contributor to Fisherman Magazine. He was also the host of the Saturday morning “Angler’s Review” on W.E.S.X. He was a member of several North Shore fishing clubs and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 508 of Peabody.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his son, Steven M. Koutrakis of Beverly; two sisters, Nancy and her husband, Richard Cotter of Foxboro and Joann Koutrakis of Peabody; two brothers, Paul Koutrakis of Billerica and Steven and his wife, Timi Koutrakis of Lynnfield; his mother-in-law, Priscilla Sudak of Beverly; three sisters-in-law, Marcia Sudak, Cathy Hunt and Nina Sudak all of Beverly; three brothers-in-law, Arthur and his wife, Judy Sudak of Beverly, Peter Sudak of Danvers and Nicholas and his wife, Ellyn Sudak of Beverly and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Arthur Sudak.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Margin St., (Rt.114) Peabody at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
