Obituary

Anna E. Anastacio of New Bedford passed away Tuesday February 7, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Rose Fernandes and Joseph Perry. She was raised by the late Emelia Santos. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters, Caesar Santos, Caroline Ramos, Nancy Pina, Bernice Costa, Delores Pina, Eleanor Rodrigues and survived by Rosalie Pimental and Manuel Santos of New Bedford.
Anna was a longtime caregiver and employed as a CNA for most of her life until her retirement she was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital. Anna was a longtime resident of Olympia Towers and took great pride in her meticulously kept home, often showing and cooking for all her visitors. Anna enjoyed the love of her family and occasional trips to the casino with her buddy/granddaughter Karen.
Anna was the proud mother of three daughters, Margaret “Peggy” Gilmette, wife of the late Aniceto Gilmette of New Bedford, the late Carol Lomba, wife of Arthur Lomba of New Bedford, and the late Patricia Ferreira, wife of Antonio Ferreira of Rochester. Anna was the grandmother of Karen McManus of Randolph, Robert and Karin McManus of Plymouth, Paul and Sandy McManus of Dartmouth, Michelle and Richard Soule of Austin, Texas, Noelle and David Querzoli of Easton, Melanie and Jim Smith of Dartmouth and Jeremy Ferreira of Rochester. In addition she had nineteen great-grandchildren and most recently a great-great granddaughter, along with many nieces and nephews.
Anna was the cherished aunt of the ten children of the late Peter and Margaret Silvia of Rochester, and was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
A longtime caregiver herself, Anna was blessed to have many loving caregivers recently entered her life. Her family would like to truly thank Compassionate Care Hospice staff; Registered Nurses Cindy, Marylou , Christine and Sue, CNA’s Donna and Maria, “Busta” PTA and Chaplain John Sheeran for providing the quality of care and support which allowed Anna to fulfill her wish of staying at home.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Saturday morning from 8-9:30 AM prior to the service.
