New Bedford – Luis Moniz Reis, aged 91, died February 6, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mariana (Reis) Reis of South Dartmouth. Luis was the loved father of Lucia Almeida of Dartmouth, Miquelina Fonseca of Dartmouth, Maria E. Pacheco of Westport, Maria Fatima Delgado of Dartmouth, Cecelia Junier of Dartmouth, Jorge Reis of New Bedford, Jose Reis of Dartmouth, Americo Reis of Dartmouth and Luis Reis of Dartmouth. Mr. Reis was the brother of Margarida Moniz Reis of Tiverton, RI. and the late Jose Moniz, Severino Moniz, Francesco Moniz Reis, Lidia Aguiar. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Reis was a son of the late Maria daSilva Reis and Manuel M. Franco. He was born in São Miguel Açores, and lived in this area since 1960. Mr. Reis worked in Construction for Warner Brothers until his retirement.
Mr. Reis loved to tend to his garden, which was the envy of the neighborhood.
Mr. Reis’ funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Thursday, February 10, at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
