Abraham J. "Abe" Abdulla, 83, of Lawrence passed away on Saturday February 5, 2011 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill. Abe was born in Methuen and raised on White Street in Lawrence. He was educated in The Lawrence School System and was the son of the late, Abdulla J. Abdulla and Mary (Yazbek) Abdulla. Abe was a member of St Anthony Maronite Church, Lawrence and was ordained the first Sub-Deacon in 1978 at St Anthony Maronite Church.As a Sub-Deacon of St Anthony Church, he helped serve masses and gave communion to the sick at home and in nursing homes. He was also a member of The Holy Name Society of the church. He served with The US Army during WW II and worked for 38 years at General Tire Bolta Co and also worked for 10 years at Alps Sportswear Manufacturing Co, Inc. Abe was an avid Red Sox fan and an expert at playing the 45's card game. He was always there for his family when they were sick or healthy.
Abe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise (Harb) Abdulla as well as his children, his daughter, Jean and her husband Clayton Carter of Methuen, 2 sons, Abraham J. Abdulla and his wife, Lucy Abdulla of Manchester, NH and Gary and his wife, Joanne Abdulla of Lawrence. He also leaves his sister, Georgette Abdulla of Methuen and his brothers, Fred and his wife, Julia Abdulla of N.Andover and George and his wife, Georgette Abdulla of Methuen. He has 6 grandchildren 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday February 9, 2011 from 4 to 8 pm in St Anthony Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday February 10 at 10:00 am in St Anthony Church. The burial will be in St Anthony Cemetery, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Anthony Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury St., Lawrence, Ma. 01841 or to Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, Ma. 01830. Arrangements are by The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.
