WESTON: Mary Lou (Craffey) Ackley, 85, died peacefully on February 2, 2011 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital following a period of declining health.
She was born in Newton on March 2, 1925 the daughter of the late Patrick J. Craffey and Mary P. (Flanagan) Craffey.
Mrs. Ackley was the wife of the late Donald Ackley who died in 1964. She is survied by her nieces and nephews, Edward J. Craffey and his wife Gail L. of Belmont; Charles P. Craffey and hid wife Patricia of Weymouth; Mary E. Craffey of Natick; Eileen Craffey of Chestnut Hill and Joan M. Jones and her husband Kenneth of Shirley. Also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Dr. Edward J. Craffey, Sr.
Mrs. Ackley spent her formative years in Newton and was a graduate of Newton Country Day School. She was also a graduate of Colby Sawyer College in Maine. She had a long and successful career as a retail buyer at many of the prominent clothing stores in the Boston and Springfield areas. She has been a resident of Weston for over 16 years and previously resided in Pembroke for many years. She was an active participant of the Weston Council on Aging and assisted in the business office and on the “Great Discussions” political discussions. She was an avid golfer and former member of the Braeburn Country Club of Newton. She enjoyed music, particularly jazz, and was an accomplished artist in the medium of oils and landscape paintings.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 from 9:30 to 10:30 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Saint Julia’s Church in Weston Center. Interment will follow in the Craffey family lot in Mount Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial gifts in her memory may be sent to the Weston Council on Aging, 20 Alphabet Lane, Weston, MA 02493.
