Lona K. Thompson, 89, of Irwin County died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 9 at Frank Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Ed McIntyre and Rev. Jimmy McIlrath officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Thompson was born September 30, 1921 in Tallapoosa, Georgia to the late George W. and Rosa Smith King. She lived in Irwin County most of her life. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker who loved to sew, cook and grow flowers. She was a member of Frank Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her sons: Glynn Thompson of Atlanta, Dennis Thompson of Fitzgerald, Donnie (Cindy) Thompson of Cartersville and Danny (Donna) Thompson of Fitzgerald; daughters: Sue (John) Stanzilis of Acworth and Mavis Sweat of West Palm Beach, FL; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; sisters: Nell McLarty of Waco and Nova Hudson of Ocilla as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell James Thompson.
