LINCOLN: Richard Adams Williams, 85, died peacefully at his home in Lincoln surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 19, 2011.
He was born in Medford on June 10, 1925 the son of the late Frank Miller Williams and Mary Louise (Gallagher) Williams.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Hill) Williams of Lincoln, formerly of Wayland and his two daughters, Sarah W. Krous and her husband Steven of Portsmouth, R.I. and Susan P.W. Masterson and her husband James of Stratham, N.H. Also survived by four grandchildren, Emily H. Quan of Atlanta, GA, Richard H. Quan of Narragansett, R.I.; Courtney L. Savoie of Stratham, N.H. and Steven W. Krous of Portsmouth, R.I.
Richard had been a resident of Lincoln for the past 5 years and previously resided In Wayland for over 49 years. He spent his formative years in Winchester and Wellesley and was a graduate of the Noble and Greenough School with the Class of 1943. He attended Harvard University and served with the ROTC Program. During World War II he was a Seaman First Class in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Champlin. He had a long and distinguished career as a banker and retired as the Senior Vice President of the Real Estate division of the Shawmut Bank after 39 years. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, camping and traveling with his wife and family. He was an active member of the Golden Tones, volunteered many hours for the Meals on Wheels Program and was a driver for the FISH Program.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 o’clock at the First Parish Unitarian Church of Wayland, 50 Cochituate Rd (Rte 20 and 27/126), Wayland Center.
