Evelyn J. Thompson, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow on Friday in Columbus, GA at 2 P.M. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson was born October 12, 1921 in Columbus to the late Andrew and Annie Mae Taylor Jackson. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1980 from Columbus. Mrs. Thompson was a former employee of Swift Mills in Columbus. She was a member of the Colony City Christian Church in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her children: Susan & Wayne Smith of Ben Hill County, Ronald Thompson of Columbus, Janice Turnage of Phenix City, AL and Sandra Murphy, Larry & Donna Thompson all of Fitzgerald; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; sister: Peggy (Robert) Lane of Ravenna, Ohio; brothers: John (Barbara) Jackson of Daingerfield, Texas, David Jackson of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Ashby Jackson of Florida,and Herman Jackson of Ashtabula, Ohio, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Thompson.
