Obituary

Augusta, GA---Mr. Arnold J. Kellos, Sr. entered into rest on January 31, 2011 following a courageous battle with heart disease.
Graveside services will be held tomorrow Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at Westover Memorial Park, with Pastor Rich Bowen officiating.
A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Mr. Kellos was the son of Chris and Dolly Kalogerakis. He was a graduate of Lee Edwards High School in Asheville. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After moving to Augusta in 1950 he worked for a local general contractor as an estimator and was involved in some of the early work at the Savannah River Site. He was the President and CEO of A.J. Kellos Construction Co of Augusta for over 40 years, and a real estate developer. The company became a regional power in the construction business, and it built projects throughout the United States including one in Canada. Tackling challenging and complicated projects became the norm for the company. His last professional assignment was one in which he was most proud. He served as the Design and Construction Project Representative for the new Federal Courthouse in Augusta for the United States Bankruptcy Court. He had a tremendous amount of pride in his participation in this project. Active in a wide range of civic organizations he was a charter member of the Augusta Contractors Association, The Optimist Club, and served on the board of The Salvation Army for many years. His interests included boating and gardening and he was highly skilled in the art of Bonsai.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Alma Kellos, Brother Chris Kalogerakis, and Sister Dorothy Curtis.
Mr. Kellos is survived by his wife Marie Kellos, son Arnold Kellos, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC, daughter Tracie Kellos Seigler (Nicholas) of Grovetown, GA, three grandchildren Kristy K. Way (T.J.) of Greenville, SC, Megan K. Saltmarsh (Brandon) of Greenville, SC and Emery Elizabeth Seigler of Grovetown, GA, and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Seigler, Brandon Saltmarsh, Charles Putnam, Harry Varn, Jr., Stephen Mayfield and Sid Hatfield. The Advisory Board of the Salvation Army will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends this evening Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Platt’s Crawford Avenue and following the services at Westover Memorial Park.
