Belmont-----Irene C. Wiles, 91, of 12 Bryant Road and formerly of Laconia died at her daughter, Sheila’s home on Monday, January 31, 2011.
Mrs. Wiles was born January 27, 1920 in Laconia, N.H., the daughter of Harry and Sarah A (Shepherd) Crossley. She had been a resident of Belton, S.C. before moving back to Laconia in 1955. In 1995, she moved to Belmont.
Mrs. Wiles served during WWII as a S/Sgt in the U. S. Marine Corps and had been employed at Scott & Williams for twenty-one years. She later worked for the Belknap County Register of Deeds for a number of years.
Mrs. Wiles was a member and Past Matron of the Peabody-Mt. Washington O.E. S and also held the office of Star Point Martha for several years. She was also a member of the L. R. Detachment USMCA and the USMC-WR Association. She enjoyed golf and bowling and was a regular participant at the Laconia Athletic Center Aerobics Swim Class.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Wiles, and his wife, Linda, of Easley, S. C.; two daughters, Katherine Mudgett-Koon of Anderson, S. C. and Sheila Akerstrom and her husband, Albert, of Belmont, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Mark, Robert, Stephen, Rebekah, Wanda, Melissa, Collin and Allison; fourteen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wiles was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Ralph Wiles, in 1994 and by a brother, Norman Crossley.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6:00-8:00PM at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 6:30PM during the calling hours.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:30PM also at funeral home.
Burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, N.H. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00AM.
