Obituary

Mandy Blair Whaley, 86, of Albany, formerly of Tifton, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at her daughter’s residence in Albany. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Jerry Riggs will officiate with a private burial to be held at a later date.

Ms. Whaley was born on October 14, 1924 in Worth County and was the daughter of Appleton Blair and Irene Calhoun Blair, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward McConly Whaley, Sr.; one daughter, Lucille Whaley; one brother; and one sister. She was a retired field worker with Georgia Vegetable Company and of the Baptist faith.

Ms. Whaley is survived by her companion of 20 years, Gavino Vargas of Albany; four sons, Edward “Buddy” Whaley, Jr. of Tifton, Jessie Whaley of Bogalusa, Louisiana, David Whaley of Atlanta and Jose Javier Vargas of Tifton; four daughters, Minnie Stephens of Coleman, Florida, Irene Whaley Arellano of Albany, Kathy Whaley of Albany and Virginia Whaley of Albany; one brother, James Blair of Moultrie; one sister, Myrtle Snow of Moultrie; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
