Obituary

Louise Hyler Washington, age 84, of 136 Nelson Avenue, Danville, died unexpectedly Monday January 31, 2011 in Roanoke, Virginia.

Born February 3, 1926 in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Grief Hyler and Katheryn Wall Hyler. She was a graduate of Brosville High School and attended Averett College. Mrs. Washington worked as a bookkeeper and retired from Corning Glass after twelve years. She was a member of The Tabernacle. Her husband, Jerome A. Washington, predeceased her in April 1994.

Survivors include one daughter: JoAnn Morrison and her husband Doug of Cascade; one sister: Sylvia Hyler Melson of Brosville; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Michael T. Washington, and by one daughter, Mary Katheryn Dunkley.

A celebration of her life and home going, officiated by Dr. Lamarr Mooneyham and Rev. Daniel Lackey, will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 7 until 8:30 p.m., and at other times they will be at the residence of Doug and JoAnn Morrison, 508 May Hardy Road, Cascade, VA.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Faith Memorial Baptist Church Gymnasium Fund, 7450 Martinsville Highway, Danville, VA 24541.
