Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Lena T. (Giacalone) Aiello, 89, of 10 Dale Avenue, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 in the Golden Living Center, Gloucester following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Capt. John B. Aiello who died in May 2001.
Born in Gloucester on September 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Vito and Jennie (Militello) Giacalone. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended St. Ann’s School.
Lena was employed as a fish packer at the former Birdseye Fisheries, O’Donnell Usen and Gorton’s for many years. She had also once worked at the former Mighty Mac and Gloucester Manor. A member of Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, she was active in the Madonna del Rosario Society and the Mother of Grace Club. She enjoyed crocheting and especially loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Maria LaRosa and Joanna and her husband, Anthony Trupiano all of Gloucester and Annette and her husband, Michael Sullivan of Rockport; eight grandchildren, Sandra LaRosa, Linda Concheri, Frances Sanchez, Salvatore, Serafina R. and John Trupiano, Marlena Kolterjahn and Shavon Schwander; nine great-grandchildren, Samantha Lane, Collin Concheri, Marissa and Samantha Trupiano, Madison and Evan Kolterjahn, Owen John Trupiano and Jacob and Gianna Schwander; four sisters, Mary Favaloro, Catherine Fontana, Pearl Ciluffo all of Gloucester and Grace and her husband, Alfred Cianciolo of CT; a brother, Joseph and his wife, Marie Giacalone of Gloucester and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, SFC Vito J. Aiello, U.S. Army, two sons-in-law, Robert Schwander and Andrew LaRosa, two sisters, Sister Rosita Giacalone and Antoinette Piscitello and a granddaughter, Serafina Trupiano.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester beginning at 8:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Please omit flowers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family c/o Annette Sullivan, 3 Joseph Way, Rockport, MA 01966. Interment will be held privately in the Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
