Daniel J. Johnson, 62, of North Easton, died unexpectedly January 29, 2011 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the beloved husband for 42 years of Cheryl E. (Fontinha) Johnson. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Mary E. (Sullivan) Johnson. Dan graduated in 1966 from Brockton High School and later completed his Associates Degree at Chamberlain College.
Throughout his life, Dan was an exceptional athlete. Early on he set records as a Quarterback and Pitcher at Brockton High. Later, he played semi-professional baseball for the Brockton Legion and was the first to pitch two consecutive no hitters in the league. Dan traded in the baseball bat for golf clubs, and spent the remainder of his days as an avid golfer. He was a long time member of the Brockton Country Club and won many championships including the Brockton City Open. Dan retired from National Grid after 35 years of loyal service, during which time he also taught electrical safety to local children at the public elementary schools.
Dan was a beloved father and grandfather who in his retirement years cherished special time with his grandchildren. He is also survived by his children Brian D. Johnson and his wife Shannon of E. Bridgewater and Krista M. Johnson-Mendonca and her husband Richard of Taunton; seven grandchildren Jakob, Olyvia, Logan, Evan, Benjamin, Carolyn and Gage; a sister Maureen E. Takis and her husband John and four brothers Thomas B., Mark F., Joseph L. Jr. and his wife Kathy, and Robert P. Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Visiting Hours are Tuesday 4-8pm.
