Collins, Dorothy L. (Furbush) of Woburn formerly of Everett, January 28th. Beloved wife for 63 years of Robert L. Collins. Devoted mother of Robert L. Collins Jr. and his wife Mary of Woburn, Diane Sahin and her husband Joe of Clearwater, FL, Laurie Guy and her husband Jim of Wilmington, Debbie Malone and her husband Steve, Dan Collins and his wife Krista all of Woburn. Also survived by eighteen loving grandchildren and 4 loving great grandchildren. Sister of Joseph Furbush of Everett, the late Margaret Sampson, Mary Floramo, and Daniel Furbush. Funeral from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, THURSDAY, February 3rd, at 9 a.m. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Mrs. Dorothy L. Collins, of Woburn passed away peacefully on January 28th at the Woburn Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Collins was the beloved wife of Robert L. Collins and together they shared 63 years of marriage filled with love and respect for each other. Born in St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton she was one of five children of the late Daniel L. and Margaret E. (Walsh) Furbush.
Mrs. Collins was raised and educated in Everett where she was a graduate of Everett High School with the class of 1945. During high school Mrs. Collins was allowed to leave school early because of her good grades and to help the war effort by traveling to a local factory to work on fabricating seatbelts that where used in different aircraft during WWII. Following high school Mrs. Collins continued work for several years as a reporter with Dun & Bradstreet.
As a young lady Mrs. Collins loved to dance and roller skate. She met the love of her life, a young Marine just home from the war, while roller skating at the Ballaroo Roller Skating Facility in Medford. The new couple soon married in 1947 and settled in Woburn where they would start a family of their own.
Mrs. Collins was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to be with family and friends and in later years spending time with her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Collins loved people and enjoyed joking around and bringing smiles to many faces with her quick witted personality. Together with her husband she enjoyed traveling throughout her life, some of their favorite destinations being, Florida, Pennsylvania and Atlantic City. She also enjoyed spending the summers in Laconia, NH where the family had a second home and she loved being with family and boating on Lake Winnipesauke. Mrs. Collins was an avid bowler for many years and regularly played in the Wednesday morning husband and wife league. Mrs. Collins and her husband enjoyed dancing together and for many years were very active with the Woburn Host Lions Club and spent allot of time on the dance floor at many different functions.
In addition to her late parents, Mrs. Collins is preceded in death by her brother, the late Daniel Furbush, and sisters, the late Margaret Sampson and Mary Floramo. She is survived by her loving children, Robert L. Collins Jr. and his wife Mary of Woburn, Diane Sahin and her husband Joe of Clearwater, FL, Laurie Guy and her husband Jim of Wilmington, Debbie Malone and her husband Steve, Dan Collins and his wife Krista all of Woburn. She is also survived by eighteen loving grandchildren and four loving great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, Joseph Furbush of Everett.
