Obituary

ROCKPORT: Kenneth Alonzo Farrar, 87, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. He was the husband of Gunvor L. (Carlson) Oakes Farrar.
Born in Pittsfield, Maine on December 30, 1923, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Agnes (Turnbull) Farrar. Ken was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was employed by General Electric in Lynn for twenty-eight years in jet engine design.
He had resided in Lynn until his marriage in 1979. He and his wife spent the next twenty years visiting Aruba for several weeks each year, traveling the United States extensively, and enjoying numerous cruises. They had resided in Florida for many years prior to moving to Rockport approximately a decade ago. He loved ballroom dancing, all types of music, especially Latin music, oil painting and reading.
In addition to his wife of thirty-one years, he is survived by three stepdaughters and their families, Lynne and Howard Camp of NJ, Dale and Mark DeFort of Rockport, and Robin Oakes and Michael Rooney of Amherst; two cousins and their families, David and his wife, Mary Whitehouse of NH, and Robert and his wife, Elizabeth Whitehouse of NH. He also leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services. Following cremation, he will be interred in a private ceremony at the discretion of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the VNA Network Development Office, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923.
