Obituary

L.C. Fussell, 92, of Fitzgerald died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, January 31, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 Monday morning until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Mr. Fussell was born February 13, 1918 in Fitzgerald to the late Alex D. and Mary Cravey Fussell. He lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Fussell started working in the projection room at the Grand Theatre when he was 9 or 10 years old, installing the first sound system, which was on records. He had his own chain of 15 theatres in South Georgia towns like Rochelle, Rebecca, Jacksonville, Alapaha and the Cotton Mill Village. He ran the Capri Twin Theatre for 10 years after he retired. Mr. Fussell worked at the Fitzgerald Cotton Mill and Irwin Manufacturing during the day and one of his theatres at night. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church and a Mason of Pine Level Lodge # 353.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Nell Cobb Fussell and Ruth Lowrey Fussell. Many thanks to his caregivers, Joyce and Jennifer, Dr. Robert Ludwick and his staff and to his loving friends in the neighborhood who were such a blessing to him and his family.

The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Family Life Center Fund, Arbor Baptist Church, 1137 North Merrimac Drive, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
