Dorothy A. (Eddinger) Egan, 87, of Manchester died January 27, 2011 at the Elliot Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Manchester on January 20, 1924, the daughter of Daniel E. and Camille (Clark) Eddinger. A lifelong resident of the city, she attended Manchester West High School and graduated from Hesser Business College.
Dorothy had been employed as a workers' compensation supervisor for many years with the Hartford Insurance Co., retiring in 1986. Since retirement, she had spent many years living in Oldsmar, FL prior to moving back to the Manchester area several years ago.
She will be remembered as a loving, patient wife, caring mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and celebrating during the Christmas season where her kind and generous spirit was appreciated by all who loved her.
She was predeceased by her husband Justin P. Egan in 1993 and her daughter Janice (Egan) Spaulding in 2004.
Family members include two sons, Michael D. Egan and his wife Marianne and Richard Egan, all of Manchester; five grandsons, Justin J. Egan and his wife Melissa of Raymond, Leo and Jonathan Egan of Manchester, Shane and Joshua Eddinger of Florida; two brothers, Daniel Eddinger and his wife Rene of Florida, James Eddinger and his wife Charlotte of Manchester; one sister, Patricia Brule and her husband Raymond of Manchester; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also predeceased by her sister, Genevieve Philbrick.
A funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, January 31, 2011 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Litchfield. Burial followed in St. Joseph New Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
