Helen A. Abreu, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford, on Saturday, January 3, at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Manuael J. “Money” Abreu, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Helen C. and Anthony J. Gonsalves. She was a graduate of St. Charles High School and for a number of years she worked as a noontime monitor at the Hurley and Wyman Schools. She was devoted to her family ,church and community, Helen was talented artist, she enjoyed drawing christmas cards, some were used by local business in there christmas mailings.
In her early years she enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband, and later in life she enjoyed her friends at the Sr. Center, taking day trips, crocheting, gardening and walking. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Surviving are her daughters Rita H. Doherty of Woburn and Rachel T. Abreu of Hayward, CA, her son in law Robert Doherty of Woburn. Six grandchildren; Robert Doherty Jr., Kelly Fay, Cheryl Braulik, Tracy Surette, David Doherty and Jody Doherty. Five great grandchildren Erin and Ryan Fay, Jacob doherty, Kian Braulik and Robert Doherty III. One Sister Ann Roszell of Rockport.
In addition to her husband Manuel, she was predeceased by her three brothers John, Anthony and Frances Gonsalves, and two sisters Mary DeAbreu and Matilda Manie.
Her funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Wednesday, January 7, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St. Woburn at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
