Mr. Alfred F. Pica, Sr. age 90, a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away January 26th at the Winchester Hospital following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth A. (Russo) and together they shared 63 years of marriage prior to her passing in October of 2008. Born in Woburn he was one of ten children of the late Angelo and Nellie (Vincenzo) Pica.
Mr. Pica lived most of his life in North Woburn where he has lived in the same family home since was 17 years old. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII and honorably served from 1942 to 1945. While serving in the Army he was involved with campaigns in Central Europe and Rhineland. Following his return home to civilian life, Mr. Pica began his career in the machining and tannery industry and for many years he worked as a millwright with the former Woburn Machine Co. until his retirement. Mr. Pica was a hardworking and simple man. He was very talented and enjoyed working with his hands. Mostly devoted to his loving family he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his late wife and parents, Mr. Pica is preceded in death by his sister, the late Theresa Pica, and brothers, the late Samuel, Anthony, Marco, Frank and Michael Pica. He is survived by his devoted children, Barbara Tisdell of Tewksbury, Alfred F. Pica Jr. of Woburn and Thomas A. Pica of Dracut. He is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren and 17 loving great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister Rose Ames of Woburn, brothers Joseph Pica of Tewksbury and Samuel Pica of Wilmington.
A Funeral service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Monday, January 31st, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 3 thru 7. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
