Marion Elizabeth (Gutkey) Johnson, 98, formerly of 25 Falmouth St., Worcester, MA, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at NHC HealthCare Bluffton in SC. For 61 years she was the beloved wife of the late Ernest Albin Johnson who died in 2002.
Marion was born and lived in Quinsigamond Village in Worcester for 95 years. She was the daughter of Lillian Christine (Finne) and Gustaf Adolph Gutkey. She graduated from South High School and Fairchild’s Business School in Worcester. Marion was a law librarian at the Worcester Courthouse before her marriage.
Mrs. Johnson leaves a son Alden Johnson and his wife, Elizabeth Johnson, of Auburn and Sun City Hilton Head, SC and two daughters: Lucille (Johnson) Sampson and her husband, Dr. John Sampson III, of Leominster and Priscilla (Johnson) Chesna and her husband, Joseph Chesna, of Jefferson. She leaves five grandchildren: Elizabeth Raymond and her husband Jeffrey of Leominster; John Sampson IV and his wife Kate of San Francisco, CA; Melissa McMorrow and her husband Andrew of Carlisle; Mark Johnson of Brighton; and Peter Johnson and his wife Heather of Alexandria, VA. “Lolly” cherished her seven great grandchildren: Caroline and Jonathan Raymond; Haley, Tyler, and Elise McMorrow; and Meryl and Quinn Sampson.
Marion was a lifelong member of Quinsigamond United Methodist Church. She was the secretary of the Mr. and Mrs. Club and a member of the United Methodist Women. Marion belonged to the Stella Chapter of the Eastern Star for 64 years. She took pride in her Swedish heritage and enjoyed cooking, decorating, entertaining, and traveling. She was a wonderful pianist and instilled a love of music in her children and grandchildren. Marion loved spending time with her family and friends at their summer cottage on Lake Singletary.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Sterling Village and the Memory Care staff at NHC HealthCare Bluffton.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Quinsigamond United Methodist Church, 9 Stebbins St., Worcester, MA. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the church. Arrangements are in the care of Lindquist & Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, Worcester, MA. Burial will be private at All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester, MA.
