LOWELL—Bertha M. Mulvey, 81 years old, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died early Friday morning at the Willow Manor Nursing Home, after a long illness.
Born in Lowell, on January 22, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Robert T. and Margaret M. (Vallely) Mulvey.She was a graduate of Lowell High School, where she was a captain in the Girl Officers, and of Lowell Commercial College.
Miss Mulvey was employed by the University of Lowell as the administrative assistant to the Dean of the College of Health, until her retirement. In her early years, she owned and operated Roberta’s Hat Shoppe, in Lowell. She was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church, and held membership in the Blessed Virgin Sodality of that parish, and was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts.
She is survived by two sisters: Lorraine A. Mulvey, retired from the Lowell Sun and Mrs. John B. (Roberta) Galvin, Sr., employed by the Lowell School Department; two nieces: Roberta M. Keefe and Suzanne M. Harvey, and her husband Roland; one nephew: John B. Galvin, Jr., and his wife Lori (Michel); grandnieces: Kathleen, Kara, Meaghan and Courtney Keefe; and one grand nephew: Jack Galvin.
Friends may call on Monday, January 5th, from 4 to 8 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her Funeral Mass to be offered Tuesday morning, January 6th, at 9 AM at ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
