Obituary

William R. “Bill” Turnbull, Jr, 96, of Jamaica Plain, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 20th. He was the loving husband of the late Rose M. (Reiser) Turnbull.

Bill was born in Somerville, son of the late William R. and Mary J. (Meyer) Turnbull.
He grew up in Somerville and Roxbury and a graduate of Commerce High.
He resided in Jamaica Plain since 1942.

He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard during WWII and was the past commander of the VFW Post 1018 and the past state commander from 1961-1962.

Bill was a Boston Police Officer for 38 years and retired in 1979. He was the past president of the Boston Police Relief Assoc. After retiring he drove a school bus for special needs students in Boston from 1979-1986.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Margaret ”Peggy” McCarthy of Whitman, Kathleen Turnbull of Allenstown, NH, his grandchildren, Michelle Dunn and her husband John of Hanson, Michael Paquette of Weymouth, William ”Bill” Paquette of Whitman and, his great grandchildren, Cory, Chase and Evan Paquette and Kathryn, Lauren and Jack Dunn.He was also the brother of the late Alice J. Morton.

His services will be held on Wednesday January 26th at 11:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to service from 9:00AM-11:00AM.Donations may be made in his name to the Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Baystate Dr., Braintree, MA 02184.
