Peter J. Nieuwkoop, 83, of Norton passed away peacefully on Sunday January 23, 2011 at the Golden Living Center-Wedgemere Nursing Home in Taunton.
Born in Amsterdam, the Netherland on August 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Arie and Janny ( de Joode) Nieuwkoop.
Peter grew up and was educated in the Netherlands. He moved to the United States in 1956, first settling in Providence. He later moved to Norton where he had made his home for over 50 years.
A retired Engineer, Mr. Nieuwkoop had worked for several years at the Stern Leach Co. in North Attleboro prior to retiring. He had formerly been employed for many years at Texas Instruments in Attleboro.
An avid reader, Peter enjoyed flying and while living in the Netherlands served as a pilot in the Air Force. His other hobbies included traveling throughout the world and sailing near his home in Norton.
He is survived by his devoted sons Bruce A. Nieuwkoop and his wife Lori of Norton and Brandon E. Nieuwkoop of Sarasota, Florida. The brother of Ina de Jong and her husband Bert of Texas, Mr. Nieuwkoop is also survived by his grandsons Dean B. Nieuwkoop and Nicholas Nieuwkoop.
Services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
