Reid B. Jefferson, 83, of 995 Piney Forest Road, Lot 134, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health for one month.
Born in Chatham on February 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Nathan J. Jefferson and Tressie Blair Jefferson. He had lived most of his life in the Danville area where is was employed as a machine operator for US Gypsum. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during WWII. He was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church.
Mr. Jefferson is survived by two sons, Ronnie R. Jefferson of Pelham and James Richard Jefferson of Providence; one daughter,Bonnie Baynes of Danville; one brother, J. D. Jefferson of Burlington, NC, and two sisters, Frances Webb of Ringgold and Margie Powell of Danville. He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Marie Green, and two grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mr. Jefferson will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Clayton Murphy officiating. Military honors will be given by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel, 2025 North Main Street, Danville.
