Obituary

A funeral is planned for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 22, at Holly Creek Baptist Church in Chatsworth, Ga. A grave side service is planned for 1:30 P.M. Sunday at Tift Memorial Gardens in Tifton, Ga. followed by a 3:30 P.M. memorial service at the Turner County Civic Center in Ashburn, Ga. All who knew Coach Wildes are welcome to join in honoring and celebrating his life.

Wendell Wildes was born September 29, 1944 in Moultrie, Ga. to George and Eldora Wildes.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Physical Education from Florida State University and Master’s Degree of Education from the University of Mississippi.

On February 16, 1963, he was married to Brenda Robinson of Tifton, Ga. Together they had four children and seven grandchildren.

He began his teaching career at Dexter High School in Dexter, Ga. In 1983, he accepted a teaching and coaching position at Turner County High School in Ashburn, Ga. where he would remain until his retirement in 2007. During that year, Brenda and he moved to Chatsworth, Ga. In Chatsworth, Wendell and Brenda grew a new life surrounded by their children, grandchildren, their church, new friends and, of course, new golfing buddies.

Mr. Wildes is survived by his wife, Brenda (Robinson) Wildes of Chatsworth, Ga.; son Kerry and his wife Patsy (McMickle) Wildes of Chatsworth, Ga. and their children Jacob, Hannah and Rebekah; daughter Monica Wildes of Lawrenceville, Ga.,; son Alan Wildes and his wife Pam (Moore) Wildes of Alpharetta, Ga. and their children Jackson and Anabelle; son Danny Wildes and his wife Sarah (Hunt) Wildes of Midland TX, and their children Carter and Avery.

Mr. Wildes is survived by his siblings, Gilbert Wildes of Valdosta, Ga.; Lottie Smailes of Lakeland, FL; Clinton and Mary Wildes of Fayetteville, AR; Jaunita and Charles Jones of Valdosta, Ga.; and James and Diane Wildes of Thomaston, Ga.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wildes is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law Bobby Smailes; and his sister-in-law Betty Wildes.
