Jean M. (Buchanan) O'Brien, a 60 year resident of Saugus, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell following an extended illness. She was 83 years old.
Jean was born in Boston on July 20, 1927 to the late Samuel and Carrie (Hartel) Buchanan. She grew up in Peabody and later moved to Malden. Jean was a homemaker most of her adult life taking care of her family while enjoying sewing and making her own clothes. She loved to cook, writing poetry and tending to her garden at her home in the Golden Hills section of Saugus.
Jean is the beloved wife of the late Richard H. O'Brien. She is the devoted mother of Laurel A. Paolini and her husband Stephen of Tewksbury and the late Richard H. O'Brien Jr. She is the loving Grammy to Suzanne Graham and her husband Derek of Tewksbury, Christopher O'Brien and his wife Mandi of Revere, Sabrina DiForte and her husband Anthony of Everett and her 2 great-grandaughters; Adrianna and Mia. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jean's Funeral on Monday, January 24, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Tewksbury. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 23, 2011, from 2 to 6 p.m.
