Obituary

Alan Gilbert Fontaine's heart of gold stopped beating on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011. He was 60 years old. He courageously battled lung cancer, but complications arose that took him from us.

He was married to his best friend Gail for eighteen years and devoted himself to loving her. His daughter Elizabeth and grandson Thomas were the other lights of his life. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He enjoyed being a foster parent to Fidelco Guide Dog puppies, kayaking, and hosted an annual picnic with homemade clam chowder.

Alan was a graduate of Ledyard High School and a charter member of the Men's Auxillary to the VFW in Preston.

He was predeceased by his father, Gilbert Norman Fontaine. He is survived by his wife Gail, daughter Elizabeth, and grandson Thomas, also of Ledyard; his mother Georgiana Fontaine of Gales Ferry, sister and brother-in-law Suzanne and Maxwell Anderson of Sequim, WA; sister and brother-in-law Beth and Norman Vanasse of Stonington; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alan's family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Saturday from 10am-10:45am, immediately followed by a service at 11am.
