Obituary

Oxford - Adam Frost Zach, aged 59, died peacefully early on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at St. Vincent Hospital with his wife and brother by his side, of medical complications following a long struggle with alcoholism. Most recently a resident of The Meadows of Leicester, previously of Oxford, Worcester, West Chester County, NY and Atlanta, GA, he was born in New York City in 1951. He leaves his wife Martha Gunnarson of Oxford, brother Andrew Patterson and his wife Renee of Cutler, ME and their children Anna and Linus, step-father Jack E. Patterson of New York City, sister-in-law Joanne Zach of Mount Vernon, NY and her son Owen, and cats Bun Rab, Fozzie, Sully and Bazoo, and his alter ego, Little Bear. Predeceased by his younger sister Catherine Patterson, father Leo Zach, mother Barbara Patterson, younger brother Philip C. Zach and beloved cats Scooter, Smaug, Catkin and Bramble.
Adam attended schools in Georgia and New York and graduated from Clark University with a B.A. in 1972, completing his degree in 3 years. He worked in the parts and service departments of Westboro Toyota for many years. Adam loved to spend time outdoors, enjoyed fishing, bottle digging and scouring flea markets and thrift shops for bargains. He loved music and had a wry sense of humor that will be missed by all those who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester, MA 01605. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in his name to the Meadows Activity Fund, The Meadows of Leicester, 111 Huntoon Memorial Highway, Rochdale, MA 01542 or to a charity of the donor's choice. As his final illness required multiple blood transfusions, it would be meaningful for people to donate blood to their local blood bank.
The family would like to thank all those who helped to care for Adam during his many hospitalizations, and for the past five years at the Meadows.
