Obituary

PEABODY: Sandra (Sagansky) Tartas, 75, formerly of Gloucester and Brookline, died January 8, 2011 in the Peabody Glen Health Care Center, where she fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the former wife of the late William Zamansky and Philip Tartas.

Born in Boston on March 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Max and Anna (Sakovitz) Sagansky.

Sandra attended the Hickox Secretarial School in Boston and went on to work for several physicians and telemarketing firms. Active in the Democratic Party, she supported many candidates and worked at the polls in Brookline for many years.

She had also volunteered her time to UNICEF.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark Allen Zamansky and Midge (Anderton) Zamansky of Gloucester; a stepdaughter, Sherree (Tartas), wife of Phil Friend; a granddaughter, Lauren of Seattle, WA; her longtime, loving and dedicated companion, Michael Thormann of Watertown, with whom she enjoyed many wonderful trips. She also leaves her cousins, Marvin Rozman of Atkinson, NH and Sandra Sakovitz of CA, both whom she was very close to; and her beloved granddog, Aliza. In her 75 years, Sandra made many dear friends in both Gloucester and Brookline and will be missed by each and every one of them. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Melvin Sagansky; and her cousin, Janis Bloom.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services. Interment will be held privately. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Care Alternatives Hospice, Dream Catchers Fund, 181 Cedar Hill Road, Marlborough, MA 01752.
