Obituary

JONES, JACK MELVIN, 81, of Louisville passed away January 9, 2011.

Jack was called into church ministry at an early age and spent more than 40 years serving as minister of music, youth, and senior adults in churches through out North Carolina and Kentucky.

Jack spent more than half of his ministry at Beechmont Baptist Church where he oversaw the production of the original Easter Pageant "Living Scenes of Easter." He also organized several choirs and led musical mission tours as close as eastern Kentucky and as far away as England and Scotland. He retired from Beechmont in 1994.

In addition to his church service, Jack was a charter member of the Century Men, a men's chorus of professional musicians who are directors of music in Baptist churches across America and from around the world.

As a member of this group, Jack extensively toured in the United States, making church and concert hall appearances and filmed several national broadcast specials. Concert tours in foreign countries included The People's Republic of China, Russia, Poland, The Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Switzerland, Israel, and Turkey.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Cora Maurine; three sons, Doug (Terri), Rick (Renette) and Dale (Debbie). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kristen Thoni (Pete), Kayla, Kassie, Maggie, Stephanie and Kelsay Jones; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Jack left us with one final gift, his unwavering faith. That gift of knowing and the assurance that everything was all right went a long way toward his continuing to minister to us through his process of passing from this world into the next.

Being the fighter that he always was in life, he ended up beating the disease that tried to rob him of all his memories.

Funeral service will be held noon Monday, January 17, 2011 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2 011 and Monday at 10 a.m.
