Marie (Remmes) Foley, 95, a lifelong resident of Lawrence, MA, passed away on Thursday, January 13th, 2011 at the M. I. Restorative Center in Lawrence.
Mrs. Foley was a graduate of Saint Patrick's Grammar School and was a 1933 graduate of Lawrence High School of which she served as a class officer. She then went on to graduate from St. Elizabeth's Nursing School in Brighton, MA in 1937. Mrs. Foley was retired from the Lawrence School System where she had worked as a school nurse. Prior to that, she had worked for many of the local hospitals as well as worked in private duty. Mrs. Foley had also worked as a Girl Scout camp nurse, as well as a nurse for Dr. George Hyder. She was an active member of Saint Patrick's Church where she had served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Ladies Sodality. Mrs. Foley was also very active in both the Lawrence High School and St. Elizabeth's Alumni Associations as well as a member of the Massachusetts Nurse's Association.
The widow of Cornelius J. Foley, her family members include her daughters: Cornelia Dubois of Andover, MA. Marguerite Ganem of Manchester, NH and Eileen Foley of Exeter, NH. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Foley was predeceased by her brothers: Joseph Theodore Remmes and Arthur Remmes, Jr., as well as a sister: Clare Remmes.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 15th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church in Lawrence, MA. Burial will take place at a later date.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call on Saturday, January 15th, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA.
