Obituary

Charles E. Ashcroft, Jr., 74 died peacefully Tuesday January 11, 2011 at his home in Derry, NH. He was born in Waltham, MA. and was raised and educated in Somerville, MA. Mr. Ashcroft served in the US Air force during the Korean Conflict. He was a steel worker and had been employed for over 19 years with the Lewis Shepard Co. Mr. Ashcroft also owned and operated Charlie’s Gun Shop of Derry. He was a member of the Lester Chase Post #9 American Legion of Derry, and a Lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, he was an accomplished Master pistol marksman, and received several awards in competition. Mr. Ashcroft was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Derry.
Mr. Ashcroft is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary (Lennon) Ashcroft of Derry.
Calling hours were held on Monday from 4 - 8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road in Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church Crystal Avenue in Derry. Burial followed with military honors at the NH State Veterans Cemetery 110 D.W. Highway Boscawen, NH.
His wife Mary would like to express her gratitude to Amedisys Hospice Services of Londonderry, NH for the outstanding care and compassion given to Charlie during his time in their care.
