Newton `Jiggs` Powers, 85, Clarksville, died Monday, January 10, 2011, at his residence. The funeral will be held at 11 AM Saturday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. Tim Parrish and Brother Jamie Mandrell officiating. Burial will be in Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 PM Friday at the funeral home and from 9:30 AM until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jiggs was born on April 25, 1925 in Slayden, TN to the late Jasper Newton Powers and Ivy Nora Browning Powers. He was preceded in death by his wife; Mary Norene Powers. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Clarksville Civitan for xx years Pythagoras Lodge #23 I.O.O.F. He also worked at Clarksville Base, Retired from Ft. Campbell Telephone Office, and was a local entrepreneur. Survivors include two sons; Eric (Anita) Powers of Franklin, TN and Mark Powers of Clarksville, two daughters; Susan (Donnie) Brown of Clarksville and Jeanne (Jeff) Pleasant of College Grove, TN, a brother; Vester Powers of Clarksville, a sister; Retha Anderson of Alexander City, AL, and eight grandchildren; Chris Brown, Emily Brown, Peyton Brown, Hannah Powers, Joshua Powers, Houston Pleasant, Pierce Pleasant, and Caroline Pleasant. Pallbearers will be grandchildren; Chris Brown, Peyton Brown, Joshua Powers, Houston Pleasant, and Pierce Pleasant. Nephews; Rodney Anderson, Eddie Powers, Larry Powers, Jerry Powers, and Ken Paris.
