Obituary

GLOUCESTER: John H. West, 80, passed away at Addison Gilbert Hospital on Sunday January 9, 2011.
Born in Gloucester on November 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Albert L., Sr. and Mary B. (Dunning) West. He attended St. Ann School in Gloucester and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Andover.
After serving in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, he was employed by St. John of God as an assistant cook, West Landscape as foreman; and retired from Connelly Brother’s Landscape Contractors.
Mr. West enjoyed drinking coffee and having a muffin with his friends at Duncan Donuts each day. He was a great football enthusiast, following all the games at Gloucester High School. He had not missed a game in 30 years. He loved to watch all kinds of sports games on television.
He is survived by his sister, Frances C. Hines; his brother Albert L. “Brud” West, Jr. both of Magnolia; six nieces and one nephew, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Sarah West, and her children Marilyn Greenlee and Kenneth Greenlee and their children.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association, P. O. Box 3010, Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
