: Mr. William S. Ingalls, Sr., died Tuesday, December 30, at the Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center in Mystic.
Mr. Ingalls was born in Norwich, CT on February 29, 1912, the son of George and Blanche Fuller Ingalls. He attended Norwich Free Academy and graduated from Yale University in 1933.
He was employed by Adley Express Company in Worcester, MA, Thames Lumber Co. in New London, Gallup Lumber Co. in Plainfield, CT and WESCO Wholesale Building Materials Co. in Poquonock Bridge. In 1958 he co-founded I.T. Dealers Supply, Inc. and served as president until 1974 and continued working part-time until 1993.
Mr. Ingalls was predeceased by his first wife Marion E. (Betty) Spear. They were married for 51 years. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Hitchon Stowell.
William Ingalls was an avid boater. He owned a variety of boats starting with a 16’ sailboat and followed by eight different powerboats most of which were named Bettina in honor of his wife. Mr. Ingalls cruised extensively up and down the New England coast over a period of 30 years making some 20 trips to Maine and one 10-week trip down the St. Lawrence River that circumnavigated New England.
Mr. Ingalls is survived by two sons, Robert A. Ingalls and wife Terry of Niantic, CT, William S. Ingalls, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Chelsea, MA, his sister, Eunice (Sally) Cook of Westerly, RI, nephew Duncan Bailey of Norwich, CT, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Friday at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Historic downtown Mystic CT. Burial will follow the service in Elm Grove Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
