Kathleen F. Johnston, 89, died December 29th 2010, after a brief illness. She was born in Newark, NJ on March 17th 1921. She lived in Salem, NH for many years before retiring to New Port Richey, FL in 1985. Her final few years were spent at Grace House in Windham, NH. In her early years she worked as a hairdresser and also worked in the Salem High School cafeteria prior to her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, crafts, cake decorating, and entertaining family and friends. She was known for her quick wit and immense generosity.
She is survived by three daughters: Patricia A. Fredette of Lawrence, MA, Cynthia Kroeplin of Londonderry, and Georgianna Johnston of New Boston; a sister, Mary Scriffiano of Toms River NJ; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Johnston, in 1996. She was also predeceased by a sister: Florence Bernacki; and six brothers Louis Hellwig, Thomas Hellwig, Anthony Hellwig, Charles Hellwig, Frank Hellwig, and Martin Hellwig.
There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 111 Perimeter Road, Nashua N.H.03063-1335. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry assisted the family with arrangements.
