Holden - Margaret K. (Mellin) Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at the Holy Trinity Nursing Home in Worcester. Her husband of 26 years, Leonard E. Johnson, died in 1976. She leaves her daughter, Katherine E. (Johnson) and her husband Kurt J. Nordgren Mangsen of Holden; and five grandchildren, Monika, Erika, Matthew, Jenna, and Derek. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Herman M. and Ragna J. (Andersen) Mellin. Margaret was a graduate of Holden High School Class of 1940 and the Salter's Secretarial School. She worked as a medical secretary in the pathology department at Hahnemann Hospital for 25 years. Margaret was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was past leader of the Trinity Lutheran Travel Group and former member of the Church Council, Finance, Property, and Serving Committees. She was a member of Vasa Order of America Nordic Lodge #611 and former President of the Scandinavian Women's Club. Margaret loved nature, flowers, animals, and trees. She held a degree in Plant Research from Harvard's Arnold Arboretum. She was proud to live in the family homestead where she was able to teach her grandchildren how to garden.
Margaret's family wishes to thank the staff of Holy Trinity Nursing Home and Hospice for all the special attention, love, and care given to Margaret during her time there.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, Sunday, January 9, from 6-8 p.m. The service will be held from the funeral home on Monday, January 10, with an 11:00 a.m. funeral in the Nave of Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St., Worcester MA 01609. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. Flowers may be sent or donations made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the White Oak Land Conservation Society, PO Box 346, Holden MA 01520.
