Obituary

Siranoush Arakelian, 93, formerly of Maywood St. died on December 17, while in the care of the wonderful staff of Autumn Village.

Her husband of 58 years, Krikor Arakelian died in 1988. She leaves her son, Minas Arakelian and his wife Maria of Worcester, granddaughter Garine' Arakelian and her husband Richard Hamelin of Warren, grandson Aris-Armen Arakelian and his wife Danielle of Hubbardston, and two great grandchildren Patrick and Ryan Arakelian. Her son, Mesrob Arakelian predeceased her in 1984.

She was born in Ordu, Armenia, the daughter of the late Mesrob and Kenovape (Dzadurian) Musaian and was a survivor of the 1915 Genocide of the Armenian people by the Turkish Ottoman Empire. After fleeing the genocide with her family, she lived in numerous countries: Georgia, Greece, Romania and eventually settled in the United States in 1977. She was a talented oil painter and enjoyed preparing traditional Armenian foods and liquors. She was a multilinguist, being fluent in five languages but above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 22 in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St.
