Obituary

John Anthony White 89 of Provincetown died peacefully at his home on December 29, 2010 in the presence of his family. Born in Provincetown, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary (Souza) White. During WW II Mr. White served in the army with the 703rd. Antiaircraft artillery Battery. He was stationed in India and Burma and participated in the Chinese offensive. Following the war he returned to Provincetown where he married his sweetheart Ruth (Lema) White to whom he was married for 61 years. He owned and operated John White Taxi Co. in Provincetown until 1989. Following that retirement he went to work for the Department of Public Works part time for 18 years, finally retiring in 2007 at the age of 86. John loved his family and he loved his work. He also enjoyed long walks at Beech Forest with his daughter Deborah White of Provincetown. Besides his wife and daughter he is also survived by his son Steven D. White of Provincetown. He also had 4 sisters all of whom have died. They are Ida Serpa, Edith Polheiro, Mary Kelly and Amelia Gonsalves. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at St. Peter Cemetery Provincetown on Monday January 3rd, 2011 at 10:00am.
