Obituary

John “Jack” McAllister, 95, of 200 Alliance Way, Manchester, died December 27, 2003, at his residence.

Born March 22, 1908 in Scarsdale, NY, he was the son of John and Cecilia (Croxford) McAllister. He lived most of his life in White Plains, NY, and had been a Manchester resident since 1995.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts & Sciences in New York City, a law degree from New York Law School, and a master’s degree from New York University.

He joined the army in the late 1920’s and re-enlisted to serve during World War II. He continued to be active with reserves for many years and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Mr. McAllister was the director of the McAllister School of Embalming, founded by his father, in New York City from 1946 to 1980. He remained very active in the field of public education throughout his life. At the time of his death he had been conducting current event classes at Hillcrest Terrace.

He was a longtime member of the White Plains Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, trustee, and a member of session. He was also a member of the University Club of White Plains, and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Florence E. Edmonds, and a daughter, Linda McAllister.

Family members include a son, John J. McAllister of Hollis, NH; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
